Cardiac Anesthesia Services

Vancouver General Hospital performs over 800 cardiac cases per year. Areas of expertise include minimally invasive mitral valve surgery, robotic cardiac surgery, TEVAR and major aortic reconstruction. Members of the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology have undertaken subspecialty training and have certification in Advanced Transesophageal Echocardiography.

In addition to caring for patients in the operating room, the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology provides support in the cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology labs and in radiology for emergency pulmonary thrombectomies and for all patients presenting for procedures while on ECMO. Members are also the medical lead in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit. The Division is actively engaged in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows as well as faculty in cardiac anesthesiology and perioperative echocardiography. There is a tradition and ongoing commitment to participating in research and multi-center trials.
