Vice Chair, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Dr. Amrit Singh, PhD

Dr. Amrit Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics (APT) at the University of British Columbia and Principal Investigator of the Computational Biology Lab at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation. His research integrates machine learning, multi-omics, imaging, and clinical data to advance precision medicine for complex diseases. Dr. Singh’s work focuses on biomarker discovery, predictive modeling, and translational multi-omics integration, with applications in conditions such as heart transplant rejection, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, fentanyl withdrawal, and systemic sclerosis. His lab develops analytical tools and software, including DIABLO and the Omics BioAnalytics platform, to enable scalable, reproducible, and interpretable multimodal data integration.

Dr. Singh is deeply committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive (EDI) research and training environment, prioritizing accessibility and student well-being at every stage of academic development. He actively supports trainees through inclusive hiring practices, transparent mentorship models, and the creation of structured learning pathways that accommodate varying levels of scientific and computational experience. Dr. Singh integrates EDI principles into his teaching and lab policies by emphasizing respect, psychological safety, and collaborative problem-solving, and advocates for flexible learning systems that empower trainees with diverse lived experiences, identities, and abilities to thrive. Beyond his academic role, he champions early-stage STEM exposure, helping broaden participation in biomedical sciences.
