GENERAL SAFETY PROCEDURES

Under the Occupational and Research Health and Safety Policy SC1 (formerly Policy #7) UBC aims to eliminate unnecessary risks, injuries, and occupational diseases, from UBC’s workplace, teaching, and research environments. Refer to the full University Safety Policy.
All UBC faculty, staff, and student workers are required to complete the following mandatory training courses:

  1. Mandatory Training for all UBC Workers
  2. Workplace Violence Prevention Training
  3. Privacy and Information Security Fundamentals Training
  4. UBC Go Forward COVID-19 Safety Planning Training
  5. Preventing and Addressing Bullying and Harassment Training

UBC SAFE VANCOUVER APP

UBC Safe is a free mobile safety app for the UBC Vancouver campus. This multi-function app puts direct access to campus safety resources and security tools in your hand, while on the go.

RESEARCH AND LABORATORY SAFETY TRAINING

Research Safety partners with researchers across campus to promote safe work practices in laboratory research that is in accordance with applicable regulations. Please review the following training courses:

Laboratory Safety provides a set of minimum standards and practices for the safe and healthy operation of a laboratory.

OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE

Occupational Hygiene is the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control and prevention of hazards in the workplace. Occupational Hygiene promotes a safe a healthy environment by providing information and advice on prevention of ill health from work activities.

ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING

Environmental Protection provides training for individuals in the areas of Environmental Awareness, Hazardous Waste Management, Hazardous Waste Manifest & Autoclave. Certifications are valid for 3 years.

LOCAL SAFETY TEAM

The Department of APT Local Safety Team exists to provide assistance on safety items and issues within their mandate and provide information, recommendations, and support to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
The Departmental LST Team for Med Block C on UBC Vancouver campus consists of the following members:
