Acute and Chronic Pain Management
It is estimated that one in four Canadians aged 15 years or older lives with chronic pain. Chronic pain has significant impacts on the physical and mental health of an individual, families, society, and the economy, with the total direct and indirect cost of ~$40 billion in 2019. The Department focuses on patient-centred pain care, education, research and specialized training. The Department offers the new Pain Medicine two-year sub-speciality residency training program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). This program offers unparalleled multidisciplinary learning opportunities leading to RCPSC certification in Pain Medicine.
