From Dr. Dermot Kelleher, Dean, UBC Faculty of Medicine:

Dear Colleagues,

I’m pleased to share with you the Faculty’s new strategic plan: Building the Future.

In “Building the Future,” we articulate the commitments, principles, goals and objectives that will propel us forward during the next five years.  Each has been shaped through consultation with you, as well as our colleagues and partners.  I look forward to now working together to develop a robust implementation plan that supports our collective plan.

Attached is a copy of the Strategic Plan; you are also welcome to download and visit our website at stratplan.med.ubc.ca.   We will be sharing the plan with all faculty, staff and students in the coming days.

Thank you again for your input and support.

Best wishes,
Dermot

Matthias Görges Receives Partner Appointment in APT

We are very pleased to share news about a new faculty member, our first Partner Appointment in the Department:
I would like to congratulate Matthias Görges on his appointment as Assistant Professor (Partner) in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics at UBC. Matthias is a biomedical engineer with extensive clinical research experience. He is a Scientist at the Research Institute, BC Children’s Hospital, where he co-leads the Clinical & Community Data, Analytics & Informatics group. He has collaborated with a number of the researchers in the Department and undertakes research in an inter-disciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists, and health care providers, where he leads a wide range of projects focusing on the development and application of new technologies primarily in pediatric anesthesia and intensive care. His research interests are patient monitoring alarms, medical displays, decision support systems, mobile health applications, and data integration/communication platforms. Matthias’ goal is to extract clinically-useful information from vital signs and other clinical data, and to transform these data into information for better, more timely, and more efficient decision-making by clinicians.

Dr. Donald Griesdale and his team make dramatic improvements in patient care

One of our fine researchers has made the news on his research endeavours:

Dr. Don Griesdale, an Assistant Professor and practicing anesthesiologist at Vancouver Acute and Intensivist at VGH has, with his team, made a rapid transition from new discovery to dramatic improvements in patient care.
