The BC Chair in Patient Safety Research was established in 2005. Dr. Malcolm Maclure held the Chair from 2009 until his retirement on June 30, 2025.
Patient safety research focuses on identifying, understanding, and mitigating risks to patients during healthcare delivery. This field utilizes scientific methodologies to improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable harm. Key areas include identifying causes of adverse events, developing and evaluating interventions, and translating research findings into safer clinical practices
