Our research focuses on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms governing myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, atherosclerosis and stress, with particular emphasis on the role of reactive oxygen-derived radicals, alterations in tissue antioxidant components and on the effects of various pharmacological agents with “antioxidant” properties in these pathological conditions.
On-going research collaborations with clinical colleagues allow us to determine the extent to which observations made in experimental animal model studies parallel the clinical situation.
