APT Faculty Development Retreat, Nov. 21, 2015 at the University Golf Club

The latest faculty development retreat was held on November 21st 2015. Please see below for pictures and guest speakers that were in attendance.

Guest Speakers:

Dr. Rose Hatala

Dr. Rose Hatala is a scholar at CHES, a general internist at St. Paul’s Hospital, and an associate professor in the Department of Medicine. She completed her clinical training, as well as her MSc focused on educational research, at McMaster University and was clerkship director for internal medicine. She came to UBC in 2003 and is currently an associate program director for the UBC internal medicine residency program, as well as the co-­‐chair of the RCPSC oral examination in internal medicine

Dr. Gurdeep Parhar

As Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Partnerships and Professionalism, Dr. Parhar provides strategic coordination and leadership between the Faculty of Medicine and the Health Authorities. Working with the provincial government, other universities, agencies and institutions, he supports faculty members engaged in clinical ac:vi:es throughout the Province, and provides oversight of the Office of Clinical Faculty Affairs. Dr. Parhar provides professionalism leadership to facilitate the prevention and resolution of concerns and complaints across all sites for undergraduate students, post-­‐graduate trainees, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty members.

Ms. Shanda Jordan Gaetz

As Executive Director, Faculty Affairs, Shanda Jordan Gaetz provides professional leadership in all areas related to organizational effectiveness, human resources and governance in order to support the Faculty’s strategic commitments, including that of being an exceptional work environment. Working closely with our internal and external partners, she works to improve collaboration and coordination to support faculty and staff at all of our sites.

Dr. Chris Chin

Dr. Chin trained in London, UK (with Fellowships in Toronto) and was a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal London Hospital and then Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals between 1998 and 2012. He has been Simulator Instructor since 2001 and was Assistant Director of the Barts and London Simulator Centre from 2002 -­‐ 2009. He has been involved in the development of Simulator Faculty Development courses in London, UK since 2003 and internationally with the EuSim group since 2005. He obtained his Masters of Clinical Education from London University in 2010. He has been staff anesthesiologist at BC Children’s Hospital since Dec 2012 and has been running a Multiprofessional Simulator Faculty Development Course in BC since 2013.

Dr. Oliver Applegarth

Dr. Applegarth is a Staff Anesthesiologist at Vancouver General Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Bri:sh Columbia. Acer completing his anesthesia residency at UBC, he completed a Masters of Education from UBC in 2009. He is the Anesthesia Undergraduate Program Director for UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Trina Montemurro

Dr. Montemurro is a Staff Anesthesiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia. She completed her Anesthesia residency at UBC in 2009 and her areas of interest include Regional Anesthesia, Patient Safety and Quality Improvement. Trina has been actively involved in the Poreolio Project in the UBC Anesthesiology Residency Program
